Clark CD’s first Ag Training workshopDenise Smee and Lisa Geidel of the Clark Conservation District have been appointed by the Board of Clark County Commissioners as the county’s very first Agricultural Technicians (Ag Techs).

As Ag Techs they will carry out plans set forth by the agricultural guidelines in the Clark County Habitat Conservation Ordinance. Specifically, Denise and Lisa will work with landowners to help develop habitat protection plans designed to make sure the land remains productive while preventing habitat functions from substantial degradation. In addition to being the first Ag Techs for the county, Denise and Lisa are training other Ag Techs, volunteers who will assist Clark County landowners in developing habitat protection plans.

The training class consists of two parts: a classroom segment and a hands-on field study on a local farm. During the classroom portion attendees learn about environmental processes and traditional farming practices in Clark County. They also learn how to select which best-management-practices would work with various agricultural settings. The new partnership among Clark County, Clark CD, landowners, and volunteers promises to be a “win-win” program for everyone involved.
