King CD to hold public comment sessions regarding special assessment

King Conservation District has annouced the dates and locations of district wide public comment sessions to seek input in advance of a 2010 special assessment. The King Conservation District (King CD) will hold a series of six public comment sessions in May and June to provide input on conservation priorities and programs that would be funded by the reauthorization of the district special assessment.

King Conservation District moves to new offices in Renton

RENTON-The King Conservation District (King CD) has relocated to new offices at 1107 SW Grady Way, Suite 130, in Renton, WA 98057.

The new location provides more efficient and eco-friendly work space for district staff, improved space for consultations with cooperators and project partners and convenient parking for visitors, according to King CD Executive Director Jeffrey Possinger. The new offices are located a few blocks from the previous location Renton. The new main phone number is 425-282-1897.

King Conservation District appoints David Irons to board of supervisors

RENTON—Civic leader and retired telecommunications executive David Irons has been appointed to the King Conservation District (King CD) board of supervisors. He was selected by current members of the board to fill the unexpired term of an elected supervisor. The term ends May 20, 2010.

“David brings a wide range of experience and perspectives that will be valuable in our policy-making process,” said King CD board of supervisors’ Chairman Bill Knutsen. “I’m passionate about the role of the King Conservation District and conservation districts across the nation,” said Irons. “Generations of my family have been engaged in farming of some kind, and participating in supporting the district’s mission is an extension of that.”

Adams CD Essay Contest Awards Talented Youth

2008_annual_report_cover.jpgEvery year Adams CD invites the sixth grade students of Ritzville, Lind, Washtucna and Benge to participate in an essay contest. In the past, an employee of NRCS has presented the topic to the students, but this year Niki Young, Adams CD Resource Technician, created a PowerPoint presentation and went to the schools to explain how the contest works.

The topic of this years contest was "My role in the environment is important.” Students picked an aspect of the environment, living or inanimate, to research and then wrote about its role and how it functions as part of the biodiversity of Adams County. Adams CD Board members recently judged a total of 43 entries, and selected the three overall winners, you can click the read more link below to read the three essays that won overall first, second, and third place.
