December 4, 2007 - In the wake of flooding and hurricane-force winds causing damage across Western Washington, USDA Rural Development plans to make low-interest loans and grants available to rural residents in the affected areas to repair damage to their homes.

"We have money available to help income-eligible homeowners, especially seniors, recover from the storm damage," said Jon DeVaney, Washington State Director. "If you contact the closest Rural Development office, we'll help you determine whether you qualify."

The funding is made available under USDA Rural Development's Home Improvement Loan and Grant program, which provides income-eligible homeowners who are unable to secure other financing access to a 1 percent loan for home repairs. Persons age 62 and older also may be eligible for grants in addition to the low-interest loans.
