Washington’s conservation districts have been teaching people about best management soil practices ever since the days of the dust bowl.
Information about the importance of soil and how to conserve it is, of course, just as important today, and there are exciting opportunities concerning soil education on the horizon for Washington’s conservation districts.
The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) 2009 stewardship theme is “Soil.”
NACD offers many resources and ideas to districts for educating landowners about soil conservation.
In addition, NACD’s national 2009 poster contest theme will be: “Dig It: The Secrets of Soil,” and many Washington districts will be sponsoring local soil poster contests for K-12 students in public, private, and home schools.
Local winning posters will advance to a State contest, sponsored by the Commission, and then on to NACD’s national contest.
The Commission has provided resources to help districts conduct local poster contests.
