The Conservation Commission will hold a regular business meeting on December 3, 2009 at the Mirabeau Park Hotel and Convention Center in Spokane, WA. The meeting will follow the Washington Association of Conservation Districts Annual Meeting.

Whole Watershed Restoration Initiative
Ecotrust, in partnership with the NOAA Restoration Center, Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB) and the Pacific Northwest Region of the U.S. Forest Service, is requesting project proposals for the 2010 cycle of the Whole Watershed Restoration Initiative (WWRI). The goal of this program is to restore the natural functions of the whole watersheds in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, and to amplify community-based partnerships focused on the strategic restoration of Pacific salmon and steelhead ecosystems.

The Washington State Conservation Commission will hold a special telephonic meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 to discuss proposed changes to the Elections and Appointments Procedures. The meeting will begin at 1:00 pm till 2:20 pm. Please see the meeting notice for the official announcement. On October 14, 2009 at 6:00 pm, the Board of Island County Commissioners will hold a public hearing at the Island County Annex Building, Basement Meeting Room, 1 North East Sixth Street, Coupeville, Washington, to consider whether to accept, modify and accept, or reject the Whidbey Island Conservation District's and Snohomish Conservation District's proposed system of special monetary assessments on land.
And, on October 20, 2009 at 6:00 pm, the Board of Island County Commissioners will hold a public hearing at the Camano Senior and Community Center, 606 Arrowhead, Camano Island, Washington, to consider whether to accept, modify and accept, or reject the Whidbey Island Conservation District's and Snohomish Conservation District's proposed system of special monetary assessments on land.

Tumwater, WA.—Both salmon and a local farms will benefit from a recent grant to the Thurston
Conservation District. The $46,901 grant will pay for work to improve habitat for salmon and
water quality in Pierre and Burns Creeks and in Totten Inlet while also increasing the capacity of
the Oyster Bay Farm to pasture livestock and harvest shellfish.
