Mission Statement

The State Auditor's Office independently serves the citizens of Washington by promoting accountability, fiscal integrity and openness in state and local government.  Working with these governments and with citizens, we strive to ensure the efficient and effective use of public resources.

State promotes financial transparency through new Web site

The State of Washington launched a new Web site, fiscal.wa.gov, that provides public access to the state's budget proposals, revenue, expenditures, staffing and other financial data. The site was created at the direction of the 2008 Legislature and is supported by the Legislative Evaluation and Accountability Program and the Office of Financial Management.

Changes to Whistleblower Laws

The 2008 Legislature passed Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 6776 (Chapter 42.40 RCW), making significant changes to the State Employee Whistleblower Act. One of the most significant changes in the bill expands the responsibility for taking whistleblower assertions to every state government agency in Washington. The bill took effect June 12, 2008.
