Overview of Programs in the Conservation Commission

The Washington State Conservation Commission provides a number of programs to help put conservation on the ground.  We think of program participants as conservation V.I.P.s, because these individuals implement Voluntary, Incentive-based, Private landowner actions!

Brief program descriptions are listed below. Click the program name to learn more about a specific program.  You may also be interested in seeing some of the organizations working with us to help conserve natural resources.

  • Capacity Building Grant Program — Designed to help support and develop critical infrastructure in conservation districts.

  • Columbia River Basin Water Management Program (CRBWM) — The goal is to get water to the right place at the right time to support healthy, growing communities and fish.

  • Conservation Resource Enhancement Program (CREP) — Through this voluntary program, eligible land is modified to create forested streamside buffers to provide cooler water, more diverse aquatic habitats, and a reduction in sediment.

  • Coordinated Resource Management (CRM) — CRM offers a voluntary, collaboriate, team approach that promotes active local participation in developming and implementing sound resource management programs.

  • Farm Plan Implementation Grant (FPIG) — Based on local long-range and annual plans, conservation districts use this funding to assist resource users in conserving natural resources. 

  • Good Governance and Capacity Building Grants — These grants help conservation districts cover important planning, training, and operating expenses that cannot be funded from other sources.  

  • Irrigation Efficiencies Grant Program (IEGP) — Through partnerships with local conservation districts, IEGP helps private landowners save water and aid in salmon recovery.

  • Livestock Grants — These funds are used to assist owners and operators of animal feeding operations to develop nutrient management plans, and to provide financial assistance for implementing conservation Best Management Practices.

  • Office of Farmland Preservation (OFP) — OFP will develop model programs and tools to help retain agricultural land for farm production.

  • Professional Engineering Services Grant — These grants assure that each conservation district has access to design and review services provided by licensed professional engineers.

  • Puget Sound Water Quality Work Plan Grants (PSWQ) — PSWQ grants help implement the current Puget Sound Water Quality Work Plan.
