Professional Engineering (PE)

Provides operating funds so conservation districts can hire, retain, or contract professional engineers and engineering staff to support design, permitting, and construction oversight for conservation projects.

Ongoing Operating, Non-Competitive

Each cooperating engineering area receives at least 250,000 dollars per fiscal year (unless they request less); additional PE funds may be requested by engineering areas or individual districts; overhead capped at 25% of district staff time.

No match required; districts must return unused PE funds promptly or risk reduced future allocations.

No fixed annual deadline beyond SCC’s internal timing; new cooperating engineering area requests and workload analyses are due by April 15 of odd‑numbered years.

Funds are awarded as soon as possible after the start of each fiscal year once applications are approved; new engineering area decisions are made after Leadership Team review.

Operating grants begin at the start of each fiscal year; PE services must be in place early in the year.
