Final Budgets Approved by Legislature

April 27th marked sine die, the final day of the 105-day session of the Legislature. The final budgets for the 2025-2027 biennium were revealed on Saturday and passed on Sunday. Now, Governor Ferguson has 20 days to review the budgets, with a deadline of May 20.

In a press release, he has acknowledged up-front that the Legislature has met his goals and will spend the next few weeks reviewing each line of the budgets. The Governor could approve the budgets as written, exercise a line-item veto on the things he does not agree with, or veto the entire budget and bring legislators back to Olympia. Once the budgets are enacted, they will take effect on July 1, 2025.

At the State Conservation Commission (SCC), we are still working through the implications of the operating and capital budgets for our agency and the impacts to conservation districts. While we work through the budgets, we wanted to get information out as soon as possible so that districts and other partners can start planning for the next fiscal year.
